Hello, and Welcome! Editor's Letter
A beginning-of-semester letter from the editors
By Lauren Trowbridge
Wonderful, wonderful readers, welcome to another semester with The Wheel! As the leaves are starting to change color and the geese are migrating for the colder season, we’re so thrilled to offer our first online edition for the 2022-23 school year.
Allow us to introduce ourselves as the new editorial staff. We’re Lauren Trowbridge ‘24 and Natalie Nemes ‘24, the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor for this year. Both of us coming from journalist positions with The Wheel in the past, we’re looking forward to this new set of responsibilities and are excited to share our plans with you all.
Obviously, the best part of a new semester is our new staff. If you check out our Meet the Staff page on our website, you’ll see both new and returning faces. We as editors have been interviewing and working with our budget to open up new positions, both for staff writers and our ever-loved editorial interns. If any of you are interested, reach out to us! We’re still hiring for both and more positions.
In addition, we’re pleased to announce that our new Social Media Manager is Morgan Shelley! They’ve been a journalist with us for almost a year, and we know that they’ll take the new responsibility in stride. Be sure to check us out (and them, behind our handle) on Instagram @stcatherinewheel Go, Morgan!
Looking forward to later in the semester, we have a lot on the periphery, both with regard to editions and behind-the-scenes work.
As always, we’re already planning for our end-of-semester special edition. You can rest assured that this one’s going to be a good one. Ad sales are in motion, so keep your eyes peeled for those, and if you know of any small businesses looking for advertisement spaces, send them our way!
In addition, we’re looking for submissions, so please let us know if you have a fun review, a critical piece or even a poem that you’re proud of. We’d love to see it.
All right, enough about us. We want to talk about you! (Specifically you. Yes, you.) We wanted to take a moment and thank you for your support. Whether you’re subscribed to our mailing list (linked on our website, by the way), you clicked on the link in our Instagram bio or you stumbled across us on the St. Kate’s homepage, thank you for being here. We do this for you, after all.
To summarize, keep your eyes peeled for our biweekly editions, keep your inner journalist open for story leads and keep your brains screwed on tight. You got this! We’ll see you in two weeks.
All of our best,
Lauren and Natalie
