Dew Drop Don't Stop!
Celebrations Throughout Katie History
After a two-year break from festivities, St Catherine University is finally bringing back Dew Drop Bop, an exciting end-of-the-year celebration with a variety of events, activities, food and more. The celebration is happening on May 13 from 5-8 pm, and all members of the St. Kate’s community are welcome to join in on the festivities. For the last couple of years, the university canceled the annual celebrations due to the pandemic, so many underclassmen will be experiencing their first-ever Dew Drop Bop this year. Current Katies always enjoy this large celebration, and even alumni come back to celebrate at the Dew Drop Bop Alumni Party.
As we get ready for Dew Drop Bop, let’s go back in time and look at previous celebrations! Before Dew Drop Bop became an annual event, St. Kate’s hosted a May Fête celebration that included club parades and other activities on campus. In this photograph, chemistry students dressed up as wizards and created an alchemy float for the parade in 1942.
In this next photograph, four students perform a German folk dance during May Fête Day in 1965.
May Fête transformed Dew Drop Bop in 1987, and this next photograph shows Katies celebrating the second anniversary of the celebration.
In 2008, St. Kate’s promoted Dew Drop Bop by creating and advertising a logo around the school. Katies anticipated the big celebration for months before it began.
From May Fête to Dew Drop Bop, this celebration has been bringing Katies together for generations. I hope learning about the evolution of this event has raised your excitement for Dew Drop Bop. Mark your calendars— this year’s event will be on May 13 from 5-8 pm!
Excited to see you all there!
xoxo Leah
