St. Kate's Golf Team closes their fall season

By Mia Timlin and Izzy Sanders

The St. Kate’s Golf Team closed off their season last month. They went out with a No. 9 ranking in the NCAA Division III and are automatically qualified for the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship in May following their win at the MIACs the previous year.

They played their final tournament of the season in Destin, Florida at the Golfweek October Classic where they placed 8th.

To get a broader look at the season, we talked to head coach of the team, Mary Giorgi.

How was your season? We had a great season. This is the lowest scoring average our team has ever had. We won the MIAC Conference for the fifth time. won every MIAC Conference event, and won a D2 event beating all the Division II teams in Minnesota.

What are you excelling I’m this season? Our team has a ton of depth. We have 11 very talented players on our team that could all contribute on any given day.

What were your goals? Our goal every year is to win the MIAC Championship. Other than that we try to take things day by day, stay disciplined, and focus on the process.

Do you think you achieved them? Yes, we exceeded expectations. Winning a DII tournament was a huge accomplishment and testament to our players' hard work!

How well did new recruits do? We had one new player (Caylin Cantwell) she did great! She is one of the top freshmen in the MIAC Conference and has an extremely bright future here at St. Kate's.

How was team spirit? Our team is extremely competitive yet supportive.

How long have you been coaching? With St Kates? How has it been going for you? This is my 9th full school year at St. Kate's. It's flown by and I've had a blast with everyone that has played golf here over the years. I am lucky to be able to coach golf as a full-time job.
