Tips for managing mental health during Ramadan
By Najma Hussein
Happy Ramadan! Focusing on mental health during this month is important because Ramadan presents unique challenges and possibilities for spiritual growth, reflection and community connection. Here are some suggestions that might assist students in achieving serenity and balance during this holy month:
1. Remind yourself of your goals.
Make sure you are renewing your intentions and remembering the goals you made use of, which are super helpful.
2. Stick to your routine.
Hopefully, at the beginning of Ramadan, you adjusted your work and school schedule to align with this month. Remember not to take on too much!
3. Connect with others!
Embrace yourself in your community Masjid and volunteer. Connecting with others can provide you with a sense of belonging and support.
4. Set boundaries
To put your mental health and well-being first, set boundaries with both yourself and other people. Saying no to extra responsibilities or activities that might overwhelm you is one way to do this.
5. Be kind to yourself :)
Throughout Ramadan, treat yourself with compassion, especially if you are unable to fulfill all of your personal or academic goals. Acknowledge your efforts and improvements, no matter how tiny, and refrain from self-criticism or negative self-talk.
Remember that each person's experience during Ramadan is different, so pay attention to your body and mind. Taking care of your mental health during Ramadan will not only benefit you but also improve your overall spiritual experience during this sacred month.
