Spring Semester: Letter From the Editor

Spring Semester: Letter From the Editor

By Mia Timlin

Welcome back Katies! We’re so happy to be back with you on campus for another semester.

Last semester was one of a lot of change. Changes on campus. Changes in our national leadership and the relationships we form with the people around us. Changes in our international community. Changes at The Wheel.

And we know that the changes are just going to keep coming. We’re coming into this semester with the aftershocks of those changes still clinging to us. Some of the stories we’re telling feel uncertain or subject to change at the drop of a hat. Some stories hurt to write. Our goal is to deliver to you the good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly—all rolled up in one edition.

Not all changes have been bad, though. We’re still with you, in a physical and tangible way, that the student news on campus hasn’t been in a long time. We’re here with you in color photos of your peers that you can hold in your hands. We’re here with you in crossword puzzles to do at the table while you eat breakfast. We’re here with you in crinkled copies left about campus that can be picked up time after time again.

While our presence grows, we hope the voices making it up do as well. The pages put out for you every two weeks have featured the incredibly talented and gloriously loud voices of your fellow students who have things to say about the world around them. Student writing is so vital to campus news. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for these students, and we’re constantly looking for more of them. If you want to be one of them, we’re here. Send us an email, stop by one of our team meetings, slip a note under our office door (CdC 286)—whatever works for you.

Keep looking out for The Wheel when you walk to class or pass through the CdC. The challenges, questions and care of students like you are what make student news worth making, platforming and advocating for. We’re looking forward to writing for you for another semester.

Happy reading!
