Peer Advisors coming soon to Career Development
Career office starting a new peer advising program for resume/cover letter reviews
Beginning the last week in February, the St. Kate’s Career Development office will be launching a new program where trained student workers will be leading peer advising meetings on resume and cover letter reviews, as well as Handshake help.
I spoke with career development staff member Josie Graf and Career Assistant Melody Kosbab, both of whom are currently working on launching this program.
“The Career Development peer advising addition allows us to meet two unique center goals at once,” Josie Graf, the office’s Information Specialist, says of the program. “Through peer advising, the career center increases the number of students we are able to help, and at the same time offer a trained peer that can relate to where the individual student is on their career journey.”
The career development office has eight Career Assistants in total, who have gone through a rigorous training process to learn how to help College for Women students look at their resumes and cover letters with a critical eye. These Peer Advisors (PAs) will also be available to answer any questions College for Women (CFW) undergraduate students may have about the career search tool, Handshake.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the Career Development's PA program because it gives St. Kate’s students the opportunity to support each other in advancing our professional goals!” says Melody Kosbab ‘24 (Political Science and Communication Studies), one of the program’s Peer Advisors.
Starting the last week of February, CFW students can set up these new appointment offerings in Handshake or request a PA appointment by emailing askcareer@stkate.edu. If a student requests an appointment through Handshake, they will have the option to select a Peer Advisor, or if they prefer, a specific career counselor.
Keep your eyes out for an official announcement from the Career Development Office closer to the launch date of this program. In the meantime, you can always schedule an appointment with a career counselor for a plethora of career readiness needs. To schedule an appointment, email askcareer@stkate.edu or call (651) 690-8890, and check out the KatieCareer Virtual Center for more resources and information.
