New St. Kate's clubs

New St. Kate's clubs

St. Kate’s offers over 60 different clubs and activities through Student Center and Activities (SCA). SCA’s main mission is to help provide students with a meaningful way to engage with the St. Kate’s community and different communities off-campus. SCA holds several events throughout the year, such as the Activity Fair at the beginning of each academic year, the Charity Ball in December, and the Dew Drop Bop at the end of the spring semester.

Even with online platforms, clubs still play an important role for St. Kate’s students. Clubs are still running virtually, despite the challenges and difficulties that have been posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. These clubs help to contribute to student life, whether you are living in a dorm, in the nearby community, or even in a different state.

Though the pandemic has changed how student life and clubs are traditionally handled, SCA and its many clubs have adjusted to these challenges. Club meetings and events have been moved onto virtual platforms like Zoom, and some of the major events sponsored by SCA have also moved online. Despite being on an online platform, clubs continue to make their presence known and improve on ways to keep students connected in these changing times. Depending on the club, there are online meetings and activities, virtual discussion boards, and chances to connect with other people in these communities, whether they are students or professionals.

This semester, there are three new clubs that have come to St. Kate’s: the Creative Writing Cohort, the Society of Physics Students, and the Yarn Arts club. All these new clubs help to bring something to student life that was missing before and give students experiences that might not have been available in current clubs.

The Creative Writing Cohort looks to offer a space for creative writing and the gathering of writers and their pieces. The Society of Physics Students, which is affiliated with the national Society of Physics Students, serves to advance the knowledge and interest of physics. The Yarn Arts club was established as a space to further the knowledge of yarn arts and to enact social justice through yarn arts.

For a full list of clubs, visit the SCA website. There, you can also find contact information for the SCA, as well as contact information for each club that is officially chartered at St. Kate’s.
