Candlelight Christmas choir concert back after two-year hiatus
St. Catherine choir singers excited to spread holiday cheer
On Sat., Dec. 11 at 8 pm, the St. Catherine University Women’s Choir will be back to continue one of their longest-standing and most beautiful traditions-- the Candlelight Christmas Concert.
The theme of this live performance this year is “Give My Heart!” and will be held in the Our Lady of Victory Chapel on campus. The singers have been working diligently since the beginning of the semester to prepare for the concert.
I spoke with Dr. Patricia Cahalan Connors, known to choir members as “PC” about the performance.
“The program一our gift to St. Kate's and our neighbors一features choral works in various styles and familiar carols, interspersed with seasonal readings and audience participation,” Connors says. “The concert is free and open to the public. Come celebrate the season and our return to live singing!”
The St. Catherine University Women’s Choir is made up of about 25 members, some who have been in choir for years, and some who are excited to try something new. Emily Cooper ‘25 (Interpreting) is one such student.
“I had never sung in a choir prior to coming to St. Kate’s,” Cooper says. “I have really enjoyed learning from Professor Connors and singing alongside the members of the women's choir!”
As weather gets colder, the choir members warm up their voices for the busy holiday season, which includes on-campus caroling alongside the feature winter concert. Singer Eliana Fall ‘24 (Theology and Psychology) expresses her enthusiasm for the upcoming events.
“It has been so inspiring to sing with and perform alongside my passionate and talented fellow choir members this year!” says Fall. “I'm really looking forward to sharing the beautiful music we've been working on with the community at our Candlelight Christmas concert!”
Come support the choir program the night of Saturday, December 11一 admission is free for the 8 pm concert.
