Activism, Art, and The St Kate's Campus
Exploring the newest installment of our social justice initiative
At St. Kate's, our five key values include Academic Excellence, Community, Integrity, Social Justice, and Reflection. We as students uphold these values in all forms including, planning and attending events that allow us to make a positive social impact. Similarly, activism comes in all forms: Direct action, building community, making art, and listening to the communities who are most impacted. In the coming weeks, we have several important events that allow us to get involved and take part in the work of activism.
On Wednesday, October 20th from 4:30 - 5:45, join members of the St. Kate’s student senate in The Pulse for Action: Dreamers Advocacy. The student leader of the event, Ania Salcedo says, “This is the first event focused on Dreamers advocacy since 2017. Undocumented youth are stuck in limbo, so we are calling the St. Kate’s community to come together to advocate for a path to citizenship.”
Follow the Senate @stkatessenate for more information and email oiesj@stkate.edu with any questions regarding the Dreamers Advocacy Event.
In the evening of Wednesday, October 20th from 6:30 - 8:00 in the St. Kate's Recital Hall joins Native women leaders Chris Stark, and Babette Sandman as they discuss the issue of murdered and missing Indiginous women.
The St Kate’s library instagram page (follow them @stkateslibrary) highlights “Despite comprising only 1% of Minnesota’s population, American Indian women and girls make up 8% of those who are murdered in Minnesota annually...”

On the Afternoon of Monday, October 25th, join student leaders from COMM 4994: Rhetoric of Resistance class in partnership with the Million Artist Movement are hosting a Power Tree Quilting event out by the Dew Drop Pond from 12:00 - 3:00 (in case of rain or snow, this event will be hosted in The Pulse).
