History of The Wheel

The Wheel published biweekly on every other Friday from 1935 to 2014. It originally printed in a strictly black-and-white, four-page spread. By 2014, The Wheel published an eight-page spread with a color centerfold.

From 2014 to 2019, The Wheel remained solely online. However, in the spring of 2019, The Wheel published its first print edition in five years. Titled “As The Wheel Turns,” this print edition focused on the changes both The Wheel and St. Kate’s were making, relating back to our history and connecting to our future goals.

In 1935, The Catherine Wheel was published for the first time, becoming the College of St. Catherine’s first student-run newspaper.

In May 2014, The Wheel transitioned to an online-only platform. Physical printing stopped, and The Wheel launched a website where publishing continued. Due to budget cuts, printing costs had become just too expensive. In the end, this transition kept The Wheel alive.
